Goodbye June, Hello July

As June draws to a close, we wanted to take a moment to share a little of what’s been happening here on our flower farm this month. From the abundance of summer blooms to behind-the-scenes projects, it’s been a lovely few weeks of growth and gentle progress.

If you enjoy these updates, don’t forget you can sign up to our newsletter to have all our latest news and highlights sent straight to your inbox each month. You can also keep in touch with us by following us on Instagram or Facebook.

Pick Your Own is back.

We’re opening the gates for our first Pick Your Own session of the season on Saturday 5th July, from 11am to 4pm, with regular sessions running every Wednesday throughout the summer months. Come and wander the flower rows, relax on our benches, enjoy watching the birds, bees and butterflies and take your pick of the blooms you love most. Fill a Jam Jar (£10) or Kilner Jar (£15) with your favourites.

DIY buckets of joy.

Our DIY buckets have been flying out of the gates, and it’s wonderful to see just how many different colour palettes can come from one flower field! Whether it’s a wedding, or just a special celebration, these buckets are perfect for anyone wanting natural, seasonal flowers they can arrange themselves. If you’d love a bucket (or a few!) for your event, do get in touch.

Summer Workshops have begun.

Our very first workshop of the season took place at the end of June and it was a true delight!

A lovely group of ladies came along to enjoy our flower farm, pick their own flowers and learn how to create a hand tied bouquet. Some even left feeling inspired to start their own cutting patches at home!

There was lots of lovely flower chat, plenty of tea, and the most delicious orange and almond cake - a big thank you to our friend Lucia for baking it! If you fancy a slice at home, we’ve shared the recipe here.

Explore our remaining workshops here - there are a handful of tickets left, so do book one soon if you’re keen to join!

Roses in full bloom

Our roses are absolutely stunning right now - we just can’t get enough of including them in our bouquets, and they smell as wonderful as they look!

We’re thrilled to see the first dahlias blooming already - a little earlier than usual. These beauties always steal the show and are a real favourite in our pick your own jars.

Just down the lane from us is a wedding venue, The Great Barn, and we had so much fun creating all the florals for a recent styled shoot there. The theme had a boho feel, with a rich palette of pinks, burnt oranges and warm, earthy tones - right up our street! It was great to work alongside a brilliant bunch of local suppliers and showcase what we grow and create here at Deer Leap. We can’t wait to share some images from the photoshoot very soon! In the meantime, here’s one of us alongside all the other suppliers who were involved in the day.

Bug Hotel Build.

Cami and her daughters, Eliza and Ivy, have been busy building a bug hotel on the field, inviting even more insects and pollinators into our patch. It’s been lovely to watch the wildlife settle in and thrive among the flowers, and we’re always amazed by how much life the flower field supports beyond just the blooms.

Thanks so much for reading our first newsletter - we’re so glad to have you along with us for the season ahead! Whether you’re visiting for PYO, joining us for a workshop, or simply enjoying a little scroll through our news, it means the world.

Until next time,

Sophie & Cami x
